The human body is not designed to digest and process foods that are high in processed sugar and omega-6 fatty acids. When we continuously consume large amounts of processed sugars, inflammation occurs in our artery walls. Inflammation is a defense mechanism that our body has in order to prevent toxic materials from getting into our body and when we continuously consume things like processed sugar, that our body isn't designed to process and doesn't need, chronic inflammation can occur. Chronic inflammation can lead to heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and even Alzheimer's disease.
Inflamed arteries can lead to a restriction of blood flow to the heart and lungs which can lead to the diseases listed above as well as other problems within our cardiovascular system such as the hardening of of arteries also known as atherosclerosis.
One job that the cardiovascular system has is that it regulates glucose levels in the blood. Glucagon, a hormone in the blood signals the liver to release insulin when the body consumes sugar and insulin then signals the body to absorb glucose from the blood. When the glucose level in the blood is high it can cause problems in the arteries and damage our blood vessels.
